Metal music has always had a certain allure to me. I’m not sure what drew my adolescent brain to it, whether it was the noise, the aggression, the energy, or any other factors that make it what it is. What I do know is that, as far back as I can remember, I have held a deep, dear love for rock and metal music. Growing up on bands like Metallica, Black Sabbath, and Iron Maiden, I developed a deep intrinsic sense for heavy music that continually refined itself into my adulthood and, eventually, made its way into my music.

I don’t listen to these bands much any more, admittedly. My tastes have gotten a bit more varied, especially since my studies in music at UNT, but as much as I love modern prog bands like Periphery, Sleep Token, and Polyphia, those classic metal bands still make their way to my playlists and I hold every ounce of love for them that I once did.

It was my goal to bring this love to the band world with CrashBoom!, which is my first foray into music for young bands. I wanted to write a piece that someone could headbang to, with power chords, groove, aggression, mountains of energy, and TONS of percussion. I think that I have succeeded, and I think that this piece is my perfect introduction to that daunting world of music for young ensembles.
